I believe therapy is a creative endeavor.

Stacey McGuirl, MFT

I am a licensed Psychotherapist, and I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I’ve worked in counseling centers, schools and, for the past 12 years, in private practice.

I PROVIDE TELETHERAPY BY VIDEO OR PHONE

My approach.

My style is thoughtful, warm, embodied and engaged. I draw from the rich traditions of psychoanalytic thought, attachment theory, somatics, the wisdom traditions of various cultures and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I strongly believe therapy can be a healing process that leads to greater liberation.

In therapy, it is important to examine the ways we have all been conditioned by dominant societal ideals, and I am dedicated to supporting those who have been hurt by Colonialist values of White Supremacy, Patriarchy, Heteronormativity, and the Gender-binary narrative. Society has an impact on the individual, so therapy is not just looking at the internal world and personal relationships, but also looking at the larger society and the history of a client’s cultural lineage. There often are generational legacies of trauma that need to be healed. I assist clients in letting go of what does not serve them and reclaiming and fostering their strengths, identities, and power.

My therapeutic approach can be helpful in addressing a wide range of experiences, including, but not limited to,

  • interpersonal relationships

  • depression and loneliness

  • anxiety, phobias and panic attacks

  • the trauma of systematic oppression

  • creative development

  • sexuality

  • disordered eating or body issues

  • early or recent trauma

  • life transitions

  • substance issues

  • identity and personal growth

  • gender exploration and transition support
